![]() ![]() Ive since purchased several other books containing jazz transcriptions and Ive looked at dozens of transcriptions online. The book was Ken Slones '28 Modern Jazz Trumpet Solos' and it was recommended to me by my college jazz trumpet teacher. Also check out his solo on “ Just the Two of Us” which is also on my site. In my case, my first transcription book contained solos by a dozen or so jazz trumpeters. I personally love Jeff Ellwood’s playing! At my age it is refreshing to hear someone solo and not know where it’s going or even what the heck he is doing at times! In addition to your standards submission, please record yourself playing at least 24 measures of a transcribed jazz solo along with the original recording. Jeff has quite a unique approach and his lines make you wonder “Where the heck is this going?” and “Will this ever resolve?” but rest assured Jeff does almost always resolve.
